Whole Red Lentils
$5.75
These red lentils are whole (not split) and still have their skins on which means they'll keep their shape better when cooking.
Try them sprouted, cooked for grain salads, add them to soups/stews/pasta sauces.
Saanichton Farm's Western-Style Baked Lentils:
1 cup Saanichton Farm Whole Red Lentils
1 Tbsp chopped onion
1/2 cup ketchup
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp dry mustard powder
1/8 cup molasses
1/4 tsp salt
Rinse and sort lentils. Add lentils to 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let simmer for 30 minutes.
Combine the remaining ingredients and stir sauce into the cooked lentils (do not drain water from lentils first). Cover and bake at 350*F for 30 minutes.
Enjoy!

Saanichton Farm
Four generations of the Rashleigh family have worked to produce corn, dairy cattle, hay, and grains on the Island. Our family has been farming in Saanichton since 1936, and on Vancouver Island since 1912. Today we produce grains including Hard Red Spring Wheat and Malting Barley. At Saanichton Farm, we are passionate about growing our grains for the local market. We believe in the benefits of the 100-mile diet: it makes sense to grow our own food here on Vancouver Island, rather than importing food from distant producers. Growing and buying local food creates local jobs, supports the local economy, and reduces our environmental impact. Local producers provide fresh, healthy, delicious food for us all to enjoy.
Our goal is to grow the highest-quality, healthiest food possible. We thank you for your support of local farms, and we look forward to serving you soon.
